SUBMISSIONS

I AM SEEKING SUBMISSIONS ONLY IN THESE CATEGORIES

1) Author-Illustrator GRAPHIC NOVELS

I am a long-time, passionate reader of comics and have been representing graphic novels for over 16 years. I love humorous, realistic and fantastical adventures for a juvenile audience or personal, layered stories for older teen audiences (and am especially interested in teen GN romance).

I look for stories about unique, memorable characters who face (and overcome!) common childhood (including preteen and teen) challenges in engaging and surprising ways. I love stories that bring to mind the real life child conflicts that are universal to all of us.

I am also very interested in nonfiction GNs for all ages. In nonfiction in all areas, I'm looking for important topics, accessible content, and fresh and evocative treatments.

At this time I am not open to submissions of GN scripts - I am only considering GNs by author-illustrators.

2) ILLUSTRATORS

I am on the lookout for dynamic illustrators. I am open to submissions of portfolios by artists who want to illustrate other people's manuscripts as well as author-illustrators of picture books and graphic novels (and those who want to do both!). I enjoy developing an artist's portfolio, honing in on their goals as a creator, and working with them on short-term and long-term strategy.

3) CONTEMPORARY AND FANTASY NOVELS IN MG AND YA

I am very selective when taking on a new novelist but I am excited to be opening my doors to a few new MG and/or YA writers this year. I am looking for smart, effective writing and stories that are creative, fresh and fun (I'm not the right fit for books about trauma right now).

Within all of these categories,
I am particularly interested in the following:
  • Fiction and nonfiction unafraid to center queer, trans, and nonbinary identities authored by nonbinary and transgender folx

  • Books exploring the subjects of toxic masculinity

  • Stories celebrating alternative family structures

  • Innovative writing/storytelling (including visual storytelling)

  • Bicultural and biracial stories rooted in a creator's lived experiences (in the vein of Darius the Great is Not Okay and The First Rule of Punk)

  • Joyful queer friendship stories and joyful queer romance

  • Rich explorations of friendship and sibling relationships

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Please only submit queries through Query Manager. Per ABLA policy, you may submit one project to one ABLA agent.

If you would like another opportunity to have your project considered by ABLA after your first choice agent passes, we invite you to submit your work to the Second Chance Inbox. All our agents have access to this inbox and will regularly look through it to discover new material! If an agent finds something they are interested in, they will reach out to that creator directly.

All rules are reset on new projects. You may again select one agent to submit your new project to and, if that agent passes, you may submit your material to the Second Chance Inbox. Read more about ABLA's submission guidelines here.

For illustrators submitting art samples only, please put "SEEKING ART REPRESENTATION" in lieu of a title in the Query Manager form. If an art file is too large to attach to Query Manager, include a Google Drive or Dropbox link instead.

Please do NOT email your queries;
I cannot manage queries that come to my general inbox. Please follow submission guidelines to ensure your query is considered.

An email is appropriate if you have received an offer of representation from another agent, so that I know that the query is either being withdrawn or to inform me of the deadline in which you will be making your decision.

I wish I could provide in-depth editorial feedback on all the submissions I receive, but it's simply not possible. Please know that I give each query thoughtful consideration and that while I'm not able to accept every new submission, I'm rooting for your success!
